We all like to go to the cinema or the theatre every now and then. But did you know that it’s a lot of work to keep these places clean? Not only do you have the seating areas to keep clean and tidy, but you also have to clean the bathrooms, food preparation areas, staff only areas… the list goes on! So if you’re in charge of keeping a theatre clean and you’d like some tips, then read on.

Check under the seat

No one likes finding an old piece of chewing gum stuck to the bottom of their theatre seat. However, many people have no qualms about sticking their chewing gum there. So make sure you check the bottom of your theatre seats to make sure there’s nothing gross stuck there.

Use two or more people instead of just one

Cleaning a whole theatre by yourself can be a big job, yet many theatres only assign one person to the cleaning duties. Use two people if you can, or even three and four for big theatres. For example, you could have one person go around cleaning up the big messes while the other person pushes a broom down each aisle.

Make sure you have enough bins

Most people who go to the theatre don’t want to make a mess. More often than not, they will put their rubbish in the bin – if a bin is available, that is. Problems happen when people don’t have enough bins or when bins are already overflowing. So, installing more bins can really help keep a theatre tidier, as can ensuring the bins are emptied regularly.

Ask the audience to pick up their litter

If you’re struggling to keep your theatre clean, ask the audience not to make a mess and to use the bins provided. As mentioned, many theatre-goers don’t want to be a burden on the theatre and will quite happily clean up their own mess before they leave.

Use a leaf blower

Believe it or not, a leaf blower can be an excellent way to quickly clean a theatre or cinema. Once the cinema room is empty, head to the top of the stairs and turn on the leaf blower. You can then use it to blow everything down to the front of the room, where it will be easy to sweep up. While a leaf blower in a theatre or cinema isn’t the most orthodox cleaning method, it cant be great if you need the job done quickly. It’s especially good at cleaning up popcorn!
